Gym, Run, and Ride:
Work is work, people don’t scan over this blog to hear how I want to throw myself out our one story building on a daily bases or how my .50 cent raise is killing my soul. I’m up for a promotion but doubtful I’ll get it.. you’re either too young or too inexperience. I should move to the beach and serve cocktails and run all day… anyone want to join me?
My gym workout was once enjoyable. It’s amazing how much pent up frustration makes you work harder.. or maybe the fact that pool season is here and I’m vain when it comes to a bikini. I did 3 sets of 2 mins of jump rope, 20 burpees, a arm and ab workout. I had worked up a nice sweat when I hurried home to get a quick run in.
I was pressed for time and thought I only had time for a 3 mile run so I made the best of it. I ran circle repeats of the biggest hill by me until I hit three miles. Yeah at 5:15 in the afternoon it was hot but it felt good. I’ve been breaking in my Newtons (I think I’m up to about 20 miles in them AND they’re not squeaky clean anymore :) so when I took them off my left foot on the outside hurt and the shin pain started to come back. I hate how one day you feel like you’re on top of the world (Leonardo/Titanic style) and the next you’re next to rock bottom due to pain. Whatever, if it didn’t hurt would we keep going? I think company/time of day/ energy level ect.. has a lot to do with it but why would I want to take all that into consideration?
After my run I agreed to try out this group ride that meets every Tuesday and after gets 10% off dinner and $2.50 flat tires! Yes last week I went to the group run and was the only person so I figured I’d try out the bike. I thought it would be a good way to meet new people and also hang with my roommate, her mom, and Dribs. The weather was amazing and a nice breeze as we easily logged the miles. We did 17 in about a hour and a half, which I’m not sure is fast or not and compared to a run would only be 10 miles. You burn more calories running but being able to look up and actually see the sun set was a pleasant experience. I can see myself riding more on my cross days but I don’t think I could ever give up running. I’m not really sore today either, my bum is a bit from just sitting on it without a cushion for a prolonged time but other than that I feel fine. I think next week I’d like to see how fast I can go now that I kind of understand how to work the gears. BONUS no falls. Either way it was a very fun and relaxing afternoon.
Wednesday mid day run: 60 mins 7 miles of fun.
So I have late night at work tonight. Meaning I get up coming for about 5 hours (early morning conference calls/email clean up/save the world from the zombie apocalypse) leave for a few hours and come back to close up shop. Of course I’m not going to get up and run on late night, that’s just silly I rather run around 1pm and sweat my life away!
I hit the local park, lake bottom, for a easy hour run. It was nice to sweat out the couple of beers from last night spandex special. My roommate joined me but due to miscommunication I thought she was 10mins late and I did a lap while waiting. Come to find out she was on the other side of our meeting place! Oh well, I logged about a mile when we met up and we took off. It was nice to talk to someone while beating the heat and the pace was very doable. She’s a Xfitter and though she is slimming down and toning up running isn’t for everyone, and that’s ok. It’s about doing what you love and enjoying it. I love the pain and sweat of a mid day run where as she enjoys the gym and competitive group fitness. I’m sure I’ll die when/if I ever give xf a real go so I commend anyone for wanting to actually join me on a run, and the more company the better! We ran about two miles and she called it a day.
I really believe in this. It's when we push ourselves by distance/pace/traine do we really grow. Ok so I need to run harder (faster) paced runs but they HURT! I'll take long, slow and hot, over short and fast...
At this point I was at 3 miles and had just about mins to go on my hour run, secret goal of 7/8 miles. I knew 8 wasn’t going to happen but I picked it up and got the additional four in. With 20 mins left I changed out of my brooks and into my Newtons. My shins hurt a little but nothing that wasn’t bearable. I was sweating so bad I poured water down my back and head. Oh SO refreshing. Took my breath away for a moment. I took off and finished my run at a 7:45 pace. It felt awesome.
For some reason I’ve wanted to keep going this week. Oh duhhhh it’s my max energy level week. Next week I’ll want to sleep all day.... just in time for the Jewel 50K. I love being a chick.
I better work now.. I’m here for the next 3 hours and it’s Margarita Wednesday! I hope someone out there is having a margarita for me!!
